US, Europe, Japan Top Destinations for Cusco Products

Cusco, Jan. 31 (ANDINA). The United States, Canada, Japan and Europe are the main export destinations of handicrafts made by artisans in Cusco, Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) said Thursday.

These markets especially demand for traditional fabrics such as blankets and ponchos woven in alpaca or sheep wool, director of Tourism at Dircetur, Joel Nuñez Roja told Andina news agency.

Nuñez said that knitted fabrics such as sweaters and skirts are highly sought after in these countries.

"There are beautiful fabrics in high-altitude provinces like Chumbivilcas, Espinar and Paucartambo. We encourage artisans to improve the presentation, quality and finish of products," he said.

In addition, Nuñez noted that Cusco also exports replicas of wood-carved paintings.
