Alpacas to Be Featured in 2013 NFL Super Bowl Coverage

Twenty of Leslie Warren’s alpacas from Rancho Keleje Alpacas in Fillmore, California will be featured in a Lincoln Motor Company commercial during this year’s Super Bowl on Sunday, February 3! The Baltimore Ravens will face the San Francisco 49ers in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 3 at 6:30 EST.

The content of the ad was decided upon by Lincoln Motor Company fan tweets, so ordinary folks had a hand in the final commercial millions will see on Sunday, attesting to the power of social media.
According to the International Business Times, “111.3 million people tuned in to see the Giants beat the Patriots 21 to 17 [last year]. It marked the seventh straight year in which more people watched the Super Bowl than the year before.”

While many will be tuning in for the game, still more will be watching just for the commercials. As reported in Adweek online, “Of the 500 respondents age 18+, 39 percent said that the commercials were their favorite part of the game while 28 percent said watching the football game was their primary interest.”

This is great news for the alpaca community! Many Super Bowl viewers will probably be introduced to alpacas through this commercial for the first time. After all, irresistible animals breed awareness, which leads to greater understanding of alpacas and demand for alpaca fiber products.
