Alpacas saved from barn blaze between Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth

FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a blaze, and saved a gnome and some alpacas in the process, at a farm between Sutton Coldfield and Tamworth.

The incident happened in Sutton Road, near Mile Oak, on Friday morning (April 7).

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We received a call at 9.11am to Sutton Road, in Mile Oak, to reports of a barn fire. Five firefighters in one engine from Sutton were in attendance.

"There was one set of outbuildings, measuring 8x10 metres, single-storey, with smoke coming from the outbuildings. There was also a request for the police to attend to manage the traffic.

"By 9.44am the fire had been put out."

Staffordshire Police were also called to the scene.

A police spokesman added: "We received a call at 9.40am from the fire service requesting to assist with traffic management after a building fire in Sutton Road. We assisted with the traffic flow and the road was clear by 10.20am."
