At Gala Event Sept. 26, 2015

Sandia Park, N.M. WESST, a statewide small business development and training organization committed to growing New Mexico’s economy by cultivating entrepreneurship, will feature Whispirit at its second annual Silver Soirée on September 26. This year’s event benefits WESST’s programs for entrepreneurs in the creative economy.

“Whispirit will be one of the featured creative entrepreneurs at the event,” say Sandy and Lee Liggett, owners and the creative force behind Whispirit, the award-winning, Sandia Park, NM-based barn-to-closet creator of hand-made and hand-sewn, high-quality alpaca fiber fabric, apparel and accessories.

Creative entrepreneurs combine creative flair with entrepreneurial ability and represent 1 out of every 18 employed New Mexicans, according to WESST. Whispirit benefited from WESST’s programs to refine our marketing goals and plan. The Liggetts and their herd were photographed at their ranch, Whispering Spirit Alpacas, in Albuquerque’s East Mountains. The couple (among other WESST clients) will be featured on banners at the event.

About Whispirit

Whispirit creates unique, high-quality fabrics, garments and accessories showcasing the pasture-to-closet nature of U.S. born and raised alpaca. Sandra Liggett’s simple designs permit the beauty of the non-woven alpaca fabric to shine as wearable, durable and useful art, requiring the same care as any natural wool garment. Whispirit’s distinctive products and business model have also been featured on television and in Fiber Art Now, Alpaca Magazine and Alpaca Culture Magazine. Whispirit’s designs can be found online at www.whispirit.net, at Handwoven Originals in Santa Fe and at Mooncat Yarns in Taos, and Everything Alpacas in Castle Rock, Co.

Another goal is to take a step in bringing textile manufacturing and truly, totally, American made craftsmanship back to life in this country, creating or sustaining jobs in New Mexico. The Whispirit alpacas are born, raised and shorn in the East Mountains of New Mexico. The batting mills are in Colorado and Washington. This unique felted fabric is loomed on our New Mexico ranch in the East Mountains. No patterns cut here then shipped elsewhere for assembly, either. Our seamstresses are local, too.
